After a heartbreaking first set, the attack starting clicking for the Long Beach State women's volleyball team in a 24-26, 25-14, 25-18, 25-15 win over Southern Illinois. Senior libero Tyler Jackson reached a career milestone with her 1,000th career dig in the second set.
The Long Beach State women's volleyball team took on its second ranked team in a row to start the 2014 season but fell 25-23, 25-10, 25-22 to 20th-ranked North Carolina. The Beach (0-2) pushed the Tar Heels (2-0) to the brink in the first and third sets but couldn't close out for the win.
Long Beach State officially opened the 2014 season on Friday but was swept at No. 11 Illinois. The Beach (0-1) and Illini (1-0) went back and forth in the first two sets but it was Illinois that was able to pull it out at the end as the Beach fell 25-21, 25-21, 25-15.
Long Beach State will make the trek out to Champaign-Urbana, Ill. for the Illini Classic. They open the season with nationally-ranked Illinois and North Carolina.
