Senior Delainey Aigner-Swesey and junior Chisom Okpala were each recognized for outstanding seasons on the All-Big West First Team, the conference announced on Monday. Okpala earned the honor for the second year in a row while Aigner-Swesey capped her career with her first First Team selection.
Both teams came in riding high on dramatic comeback wins but it was the Long Beach State women’s volleyball that kept riding high in a sweep of visiting Cal Poly. The 49ers (18-11, 11-5 Big West) kept all the drama out of this one as they cruised to a 25-12, 25-16, 25-14 victory to extended their current winning streak to five and send off the lone 49er senior on a positive note.
It took all five sets and an extra point before the Long Beach State women’s volleyball team defeated was able to defeat the title seeking Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara. The Beach came back from a 2-1 deficit to delay the title hopes of UC Santa Barbara with the 25-14, 18-25, 20-25, 25-21, 16-14 win.
The 2013 season wraps up this weekend with Long Beach State welcoming UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly into Walter Pyramid. Senior Delainey Aigner-Swesey will be honored prior to her final match on Saturday against Cal Poly.
