Long Beach State had three players in double-figures, but couldn't survive a barrage of three-pointers from Creighton, as the Bluejays went 14-of-27 from beyond the arc to defeat the 49ers 78-61.
Long Beach State closes out six games away from home by returning to the Walter Pyramid Tuesday to host Creighton in a non-conference game. Tip-Off is scheduled for 7 p.m. against the Bluejays, who were ranked No. 20 last week.
Mike Caffey scored a career high 28 points, practically willing the 49ers into double-overtime against Washington, but Long Beach State was unable to prevail on the road, losing 92-89. Dan Jennings also scored 22 points for the 49ers, as the pair became the first LBSU duo to each score 20 points this season.
Former 49er head coach Dwight Jones passed away last Wednesday after a sudden brain aneurysm. Jones was the head coach of the men's basketball program for four years, and led the 49ers to the NCAA Tournament following the 1976-77 season.
