No. 24 Dirtbags Fall in Series Finale at Mississippi State

No. 24 Long Beach State lost the series finale, 12-4, but end the weekend with the series victory.
The Bulldogs (1-2) took control in the second inning on a two-run home run and never looked back. They added another run in the third to make it a three-run ballgame.
Juaron Watts-Brown got the start on the mound for the Dirtbags (2-1) and had his strikeout-stuff working. In three-plus innings of work, the redshirt freshman totaled seven punch outs including striking out the side in his first collegiate inning. He would end up getting the loss after surrendering three runs on four hits and three walks.

Mississippi State put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fifth when they pieced together seven runs on six hits to jump out in front 10-0.
Long Beach State tried to spark a comeback plating a pair of runs on a Jonathon Long RBI double and Chase Luttrell RBI single. However, the Bulldogs got both runs back in the bottom half on another two-run home run. The Dirtbags would go on to plate a run in the seventh and one more in the ninth, but could not piece together a comeback, falling 12-4 to the defending champs.

Long finished the day 1-for-3 with a run scored and RBI. The sophomore first baseman ends the weekend slashing .545/.583/1.182 with two home runs and four RBI.
Tyler White, Peyton Schulze, and Jared Anderson all recorded the first collegiate hits of their career. Anderson also notched his first career RBI as well.
The Dirtbags return to action next weekend with their first home series of the season against Sacramento State. The home opener will be Friday night at 6:00 p.m. with postgame fireworks.
