No. 24 Long Beach State secured the series victory over the defending champs with a 13-3 win.
The 10 run differential marks the largest victory over a ranked opponent since April 23, 2013 when the Dirtbags defeated then No. 7 UCLA, 11-1.
The offense stole the show in game two at Dudy Noble plating their first run in the top of the first on an RBI single from Chase Luttrell. However, the Bulldogs would answer with two of their own to put themselves out front through the first inning.
The Dirtbags responded with three in the second, including a two-run home run off the bat of Alex Pimentel. The two-run shot marks the first of the outfielder's young career and put Long Beach State out in front, 4-2.

Mississippi State would get a run back in the bottom of the third, but that would be all the scoring for the defending champs.
Marques Johnson got the start for the Dirtbags, throwing 2.2 innings and allowing three runs on six hits while striking out three. He handed the ball off to Jack Noble who was lights out coming out of the bullpen. In 4.1 scoreless innings of work, he surrendered just three hits and a walk while strikeout six. The junior would pick up his first victory of the season.

Noble got all the run support he could have asked for as LBSU would put four on the board in the fourth. Rocco Peppi notched his first collegiate hit with a two-RBI single through the left side followed by an Isaac Ramirez double to the wall to bring in two more putting the Dirtbags out in front, 8-3.
The score would stay that way until Jonathan Long came to the plate in the eighth. The sophomore connected for a moon shot to left field making it a 9-3 ballgame. The offense was not done yet though plating four more in the top of the ninth, including Long's second homer of the day.

On the day, Long led the offense going 4-for-4 with two homers, three RBI, three runs scored, and a walk. It is the third multi-homer game of his young career.
Out of the leadoff spot, Eddie Saldivar notched another multi-hit game going 2-for-6 with a pair of runs scored and his first career RBI. Sebastian Murillo (2-for-3) and Kaden Moeller (2-for-5) also recorded multi-hit performances in the victory.
The Dirtbags will look for the series sweep against Mississippi State tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. PT and streamed live on SEC Network Plus.
