The 52nd-ranked Long Beach State women's tennis team only dropped two games all match Friday in a dominating 7-0 sweep of UC Riverside to earn the 12th conference title in Beach Tennis history.
Long Beach State grabbed two convincing victories but couldn't get the win that they needed, falling 4-1 to No. 3 Hawai'i in the final set of dual matches on the year for The Beach. LBSU dropped Cal Poly and Irvine Valley 5-0 in the other two dual matches on the day.
Sophomore Eric Hutting rescued the Long Beach State Dirtbags with a game-winning double in the bottom of the ninth, which gave the Dirtbags a 3-2 win over No. 17 UC Santa Barbara. Hutting came into the game without an RBI this season but came through twice and delivered the game-winner just after the Dirtbags (17-18, 4-3 Big West) saw their 2-0 lead disappear.
Leilani Tupua-Tautalatasi tied a school record with six RBI, including a game-tying three-run home run and the game-winning base hit as Long Beach State salvaged game two in a split at Cal State Fullerton behind a 4-for-4 performance from the junior. Down 6-0 after two innings, the 49ers rallied to defeat the Titans 8-6 after dropping game one 3-1.
