Was the head coach for the “Dirtbags” for 13 seasons, compiling an impressive 511-290-4 (.638) record... led the 49ers to four College World Series appearances (1989, 1991, 1993, 1998), 11 NCAA Regional appearances and six Big West Conference crowns... had a 218-90 (.708) record in the Big West Conference... was a five-time Big West Coach of the Year and in 1989 was selected as the NCAA Coach of the Year... never had a losing season at LBSU and averaged 30 wins per season... is the all-time school leader with 511 career wins... in his first year at LBSU (1989) he led the 49ers to a school-record 50 wins, after returning just one starter from a 14-win 1988 team... the 1989 team also ran off a record, 18-game win streak to start the year... that team went 50-15 and earned a bid to the College World Series for the first time in school history... coached three Big West Pitchers of the Year and three Big West Players of the Year... sent over 100 Dirtbags into professional baseball, including current major leaguers Jason Giambi, Chris Gomez, Steve Trachsel, Rocky Biddle, Bobby Crosby and Mike Gallo.

Joe Fryer opened the season by finishing in a two-way tie for third place out of 68 golfers at the Itani Quality Homes Intercollegiate. He shot a 9-under 204 over three rounds, including a 4-under 67 on the final day of the tournament.
