Women's Water Polo heads to Big West Tournament

Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State women's water polo begins the postseason this weekend, traveling to Davis to participate in the Big West Tournament this weekend with a trip to the Final Four on the line.

Long Beach State (11-16, 1-4 Big West) earned the fifth-seed through conference play, and will start the tournament in the first game against the fourth-seed No. 19 Cal State Northridge. The Matadors enter the weekend with a record of 17-19 and were also 1-4 in the Big West. In the regular season, Long Beach State lost on the road at Northridge 11-7, one day after playing six overtimes on the road in a 4-3 loss at No. 15 UC Santa Barbara.

The first game will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 27. With a win, the 49ers will move forward to face the top seed, No. 6 UC Irvine, at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 28. If the 49ers lose on Friday, the team will be relegated to the fifth-place match which begins at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The third-place game is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, with the championship scheduled to start at 2 p.m.

The 49ers will try to recapture the magic from last season's run as the No. 5 seed, where the 49ers upset both Cal State Northridge and UC Santa Barbara on the way to the championship game.
