BLACK & BLUE SEASON FINALE AS 49ERS VISIT IRVINE
Long Beach State will wrap up the regular season on Thursday when it makes the quick trip over to UC Irvine for a 7 p.m. match. The Anteaters are a perfect 4-0 in the Big West and 20-7 overall. The Beach will be looking to get to 20 wins for the second consecutive season and also finish above .500 in the Big West. The sixth-ranked Anteaters have already locked up the No. 1 seed for next week’s Big West Tournament.
TOURNAMENT SEEDS ALREADY LOCKED IN HEADING INTO FINAL WEEK
The seeds for the Big West Tournament have already been locked for next week’s postseason tournament. Long Beach State has secured the No. 4 seed for the second consecutive year and will take on the No. 5 seed UC Santa Barbara in the first round of the tournament. The winner of the LBSU-UCSB match will face the No. 1 seed UC Irvine in the second round. The loser will face the loser of the other first round game between No. 3 seed Hawai’i and No. 6 seed UC Davis in the fifth place game on Sunday.
PARKS MOVES UP IN THE HISTORY BOOKS
Senior Chelsea Parks most likely made her final move up on Long Beach State’s all-time scoring list last week with four goals over the two matches. Park’s scored her 166th career goal on Senior Day to move up to fourth on LBSU’s scoring list. She passed Stacy Black (165 goals from 1998-02) for fourth and trails Ashley Richardson (184 goals from 2000-03) for third. Coriann Snyder currently ranks eighth all-time with 146 goals and needs just three more to catch Lauren Sieprath (149 goals from 2008-11) to move up to seventh.
20 WIN SEASON IN REACH
The 49ers head into Thursday’s rivalry match with an 18-9 overall record. Two more wins will capture the fifth 20-win season in Long Beach State history. The Beach could also secure back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since stringing three together from 2003-05. Their 18 wins already rank as the sixth most in LBSU’s 17-year history.
POSTSEASON AT THE BEACH
The Big West Tournament will take its turn in Long Beach this year with Long Beach State hosting the conference-wide tournament next week.
