Thrilling 49ers comeback falls short in overtime in 7-5 loss
Long Beach State scores two goals in the closing seconds to send the match to overtime.

Davis, Calif. - Long Beach State scored two unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to send their opening-round game with No. 18 Cal State Northridge into overtime, but the Matadors returned the favor with two goals in the second overtime to take a 7-5 lead.
Cal State Northridge got on the board first with a goal from Jenny Jamison, but Long Beach State scored the next two goals to take a 2-1 lead after the first quarter. The Matadors answered back with two goals, but McKeon scored with just one second remaining in the second to tie the game at 3-3 heading into halftime.
The Matadors scored twice in the third period while holding the 49ers scoreless, and kept Long Beach State off the board over the first six minutes in the fourth period. Melissa Matheson scored to bring LBSU within one goal, and Chelsea Parks tied up the game with 1:25 remaining to send the game to overtime.
Ringel and the 49ers held the Matadors scoreless in the first overtime period, but two goals in the second gave the win to Cal State Northridge.
Long Beach State will finish up the 2012 season Sunday in the fifth-place game at the Big West Tournament. That match will begin at 10:30 a.m.
