IRVINE, Calif. - The fourth-seeded Long Beach State women's water polo team used a 6-2 run in the second half to roll past the fifth-seeded Matadors 8-2 Friday afternoon at the Anteater Aquatics Complex. Justine Morgan led all scorers with a hat-trick on 3-of-3 shooting. All three of the sophomore's goals came in the second half.

Friday's win marks the second time LBSU has advanced to the semis in the past three years.

Coriann Snyder struck first for the 49ers (24-6, 4-3 Big West) at 6:13 and Chelsea Parks followed suit with a rocket past CSUN's Kiernan Davis at 4:34 to extend the lead to 2-0 heading into the second frame.

Kelly Ringel continued to be a wall between the pipes as she denied the Matadors (21-12, 3-4 Big West) on back-to-back shots within the 2-meter zone midway through the period. The junior also kept CSUN 0-16 on shot attempts as the 49ers took the 2-0 lead into the break.

The Beach offense picked up some steam in the second half firing in three unanswered goals capped by Claire Martin's goal at 1:21 for the 5-0 lead heading into the final period.

Cal State Northridge finally found the back of the cage at 6:31 to put an end to its scoreless drought that lasted 25:29. Long Beach State however shut the door on the Matadors with another 3-0 run capped off by Rachel Cretcher's lob shot as the shot clock ran out. CSUN would score once more with 39 seconds remaining but Long Beach State came away with the 8-2 victory.

Ringel kept the Matadors at bay with 16 saves on the day and held Cal State Northridge to just 2-of-29. The 16 saves pushed her up to the third spot on the single-season saves leaderboard with 256.

With the win, the 49ers move on to face the No. 1 seed, Hawai'i, Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.
