Water Polo drops regular season finale at Loyola Marymount

Los Angeles, Calif. - Sophomore Julia Garyfallou scored four goals for the 49ers against Loyola Marymount, but the No. 7 Lions prevailed in a 13-8 victory over Long Beach State in the regular season finale for the 49ers. Melissa Matheson opened the scoring with a goal in the second minute, but the Lions scored three goals to take a 3-1 lead. Garyfallou's first goal cut the lead back to one, and the 49ers held even through the second period to trail 6-5 going into the second half. Loyola Marymount's Kimberly Benedetti scored three goals in the third to help stake the Lions to a 10-7 lead after the third quarter, and LMU outscored the 49ers 3-1 in the fourth to account for the final score. As the 5th seed in the Big West Tournament, the 49ers open the postseason with a match against 4th seed Cal State Northridge at 3:30 on April 27 at UC Davis. Long Beach State - 2, 3, 2, 1 | 8
