Long Beach, Calif. -
In a match that featured a total of 29 exclusions and penalties, it was the No. 10 Aggies that came out on top, defeating Long Beach State 15-10. The 49ers had two players with three goals on the day, including senior Heather McKeon in her final home game at The Beach.
McKeon and Julia Garyfallou both had three goals for the 49ers, but Long Beach State was never able to catch up from an early deficit in the loss. UC Davis scored the first two goals of the game, and while Coriann Snyder answered to pull the score to 2-1, a goal by Carey Faber in the final minute of the first period put UC Davis on top 3-1.
Long Beach State pulled within one goal once more after McKeon's first tally with 6:33 reamining in the second quarter, but UC Davis scored the next four goals as part of a five-goal period, taking an 8-4 lead into the half.
The Aggies again outscored Long Beach State in the third period, as the 49ers lost both Chelsea Parks and Snyder following their third exclusions. The 49ers rallied behind a pair of goals from Heather McKeon to cut the lead to four at 12-8, but couldn't come any closer in the fourth period.
Long Beach State closes out Big West play in two weeks, playing No. 6 UC Irvine on the road on Thursday, April 19. The team then plays at Loyola Marymount before participating in the Big West Tournament beginning on April 27.
