Pacific struck first as it scored on the opening possession. The Tigers then went up 2-0 in the fourth minute before Snyder found the back of the net in a 6-on-5 situation with 41 seconds left to cut the deficit in half. Ringel kept LBSU close in the first quarter with five saves.

In the second period, Pacific took a 3-1 advantage before Long Beach State scored four unanswered goals. Parks started the run with a skip shot at the 6:20 mark. Lantz then made it 5-3 with a goal at the buzzer.

Long Beach State pulled ahead by four in the third frame after Matheson converted a penalty shot and Parks completed her hat trick with 6:29 to go. The Tigers eventually ended a 12-minute scoring drought at the 2:47 mark to make it 7-4 at the end of the period.
