49ers fall 11-7 at No. 17 Cal State Northridge

Northridge, Calif. - Long Beach State took an early lead on the road at Cal State Northridge, but the women's water polo team was unable to hold on in an 11-7 defeat on the road in Big West conference action. Long Beach State took a 3-1 lead in the first period, as Chelsea Parks and Coriann Snyder scored back-to-back goals to put the 49ers in front by two after Julia Garyfallou opened the scoring. Jenny Jamison scored her first of three goals in the closing minutes of the first period, and then the Matadors evened the score in the second quarter as the teams went into the break tied at 5-5. Jamison put the Matadors on top 6-5 with the first goal in the second half, and while the 49ers scored next to even the score, Cal State Northridge scored two more goals in the third quarter and held the lead the rest of the way. Julie Lantz and Snyder led the 49ers with two goals apiece for Long Beach State. The 49ers return to the Campus Pool next weekend for two more conference matches. Long Beach State hosts Pacific and UC Davis on April 7 and 8, with both matches beginning at Noon. #17 Cal State Northridge (15-15, 0-1 BWC) 2 3 3 3 = 11
