STOCKTON, Calif. - The No. 9 Long Beach State women's water polo team held Pacific scoreless in the final period to hold on for the 8-6 victory Friday night at the Chris Kjeldsen Pool in Stockton, Calif. The 49ers had a balance attack from Christina Kotsia's sixth hat-trick of the season while Chelsea Parks and Kayla Robert chipped in with two.

The victory over UOP (16-9, 1-2 Big West) gave LBSU both its first victory in Big West Conference play as well as its fourth 20-win season in program history.

After a delay due to technical difficulties, Parks put the first goal in for LBSU (20-4, 1-2 Big West) but Pacific would answer with back-to-back scores. With six seconds remaining on the clock, Parks sent a cross-cage shot that went bar in making it two apiece heading into the second period.

Kayla Robert gave the 49ers the 3-2 lead at 5:27 with a rocket past Michele Relton. Robert struck once more for The Beach in set at 2:13 to extend the lead to 4-2. Taylor Adair, the Tiger's third-leading scorer, responded right back with a shot past Ringel to put UOP within one heading into the break.

Claire Martin put Long Beach State on the board first in the second half with a canon past the Tiger's keeper. Both teams exchanged goals the rest of the period as the 49ers took 7-6 lead heading into the final period. Kotsia netted two goals for The Beach during the third with one coming from a penalty shot.

Kotsia scored the lone goal of the quarter for either team at 3:44 as LBSU held on for the 8-6 victory.

Kelly Ringel had a solid night between the pipes for the 49ers with 12 saves.

The Beach heads to Davis, Calif. Saturday to conclude its trip in northern California against UC Davis at the Schaal Aquatics Center. Ball is set to drop at 3 p.m.
