LONG BEACH, Calif. - The No. 9 Long Beach State women's water polo team saw its 14-game winning streak snapped by eighth-ranked Hawai'i Friday afternoon at the Campus Pool. The 49ers couldn't stop UH's Monika Eggens as the senior fired in six of the Rainbow Wahine's 12 goals. Coriann Snyder led the way for the 49ers with her fourth hat-trick of the year while Kelly Ringel picked up five saves.

Hawai'i struck first going on a 2-0 run before Christina Kotsia put the 49ers on the board with a penalty goal after Caity Lopes da Silva was assessed a game exclusion for entering the playing field too early. Chelsea Parks tied the match up at two for Long Beach State at 2:49 but the Rainbow Wahine got the two back to finish out the period up 4-2.

The UH defense held up strong in the second frame holding the 49ers scoreless until the 2:30 mark when Snyder put one past Amy Clarson.

Hawai'i cooled down to start the second half as each team only scored a goal each with LBSU trailing 8-4 heading into the fourth period.

UH went on the offensive again with a 3-0 run to start the final frame before Parks found the back of the cage on the 6-on-5 advantage. The 49ers would score twice more behind Kotsia and Snyder but it wasn't enough as Long Beach State dropped a 12-7 decision to Hawai'i in front of a home crowd of 238.

The 49ers return to action next Friday, March 22, for a conference match against San Diego State before taking on a pair of non-conference opponents at the Aztec Aquaplex Saturday, March 23.
