THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The No. 12 Long Beach State women’s water polo team lit up the scoreboard on Saturday with a 12-4 win over Occidental and a 15-4 win over Cal Lutheran on the first day of the Cal Lutheran Invitational. Justine Morgan and Chelsea Parks each scored five times to lead the charge.

GAME 1 vs. Occidental – W, 12-4

LBSU cruised to a 12-4 win over Occidental in its opening game of the Cal Lutheran Invitational on Saturday. The Beach used a five-goal outburst in the second quarter to blow the game wide open. Kayla Robert and Chelsea Parks each tallied three goals to lead the Beach.

After Justine Morgan was the only one from either team to find the net in the opening quarter, LBSU went on a scoring spree to take a 6-1 lead into the half. Parks scored twice within the first two minutes, followed by goals from Morgan, Robert and Nicole Van Derhoof.

Parks scored again in the third as Robert and Van Derhoof to boost the lead up to 9-2. In the fourth, Occidental was able to score twice but LBSU bettered its opponent with three goals in the final eight minute period.

Kelly Ringel made four saves in the effort and Alba Dominguez had two saves.

GAME 2 vs. Cal Lutheran – W, 15-4

Long Beach State scored five times in the first quarter and the game was never in question as the Beach came away with a 15-4 win. The Beach received goals from 10 different players in the rout, including hat tricks from Hilary Veselik and Justine Morgan.

Morgan scored a pair of goals in the first quarter on the way to her hat trick to spark the onslaught. Veselike, Christina Kotsia and Jessica Brooks also scored in the first while the Regals failed to put up a number on the scoreboard.

A two-goal second put LBSU up 7-0 at halftime and another six goals in the third had them up 13-2.

With two big wins behind them, LBSU will play two more games tomorrow to finish up the Cal Lutheran Invitational.
