Women's Water Polo Takes A Pair Of Wins At Redlands

Freshman Tori Morrissey led the Beach with five goals through both wins.

No. 21 Long Beach State women's water polo cruised to two dominant wins over Azusa Pacific, 12-5, and Redlands, 20-5, at the Thompson Aquatic Center in Redlands, Calif.

Twelve different 49ers scored over both wins as freshman Tori Morrissey led all with five goals.


LBSU vs. Azusa Pacific

The Beach started the day against APU, where both teams tied after the first quarter. Both freshmen Morrissey and Annabel Harman scored for LBSU.

The 49ers began to pull away in the second, scoring four goals and holding the Cougars to one. Seniro Emily Matheson and Jessica Brooks both scored one in the quarter. Morrissey and sophomore Virginia Smith also added one.

LBSU used a big defensive second half to completely pull away from APU as the Beach outscored the Cougars 6-2.

Freshman Taylor Julson had her first multi-scoring game after tallying two goals in the third. Emily Garczynski also netted one in the quarter. LBSU blanked the Cougars in the quarter to bring the Beach up 9-3 going into the fourth.

Harman and Garczynski scored their second goals of the match in the final quarter as Morrissey completed the hat trick to end the match.


LBSU vs. Redlands

The Beach showed pure dominance in this match scoring 20 goals and holding the opponent to just five. Three different players scored a hat trick.

LBSU started off with a five-goal first quarter while allowing just one goal from Redlands. Smith grabbed two goals. Harman, Reynolds and Alexandra Massier all added one to lead 11-3 going into the half.

The Beach did not slow down in the second, outscoring the Bulldogs 9-2 in the second half, allowing one goal in each of the last two quarters.

Smith scored her third goal in the third quarter as Brooks and Morrissey both net their second. Freshman Karley Kraft joined in with her first goal of the day, putting the Beach ahead 15-4 going into the fourth.

Morrissey, Massier and Reynolds all completed their hat tricks after scoring a goal in the fourth. Screnci grabbed her second, and senior Leigh Auth added her first as the Beach rolled to the win.


UP NEXT
Long Beach State will take a week off before heading to Ann Arbor, Mich. for the Wolverine Invite. The first match will be against Michigan on Mar. 5 at 9:40 a.m.
