Feb. 16, 2014

SONOMA, Calif. – Four goals from Chelsea Parks and three from Coriann Snyder led to a season-high scoring effort and a 14-11 Long Beach State win over Sonoma State. Long Beach State’s 14 goals are the most for The Beach (6-5) this season.

Eight different players scored a goal for the Beach with four players getting on the board in the first as LBSU built a 4-3 lead. After falling behind by a goal, Christina Kotsia scored to knot the game at 1-1. Less than 30 seconds later Parks scored for the Beach lead and Snyder scored two minutes later for a 3-1 lead.

LBSU would not trail the rest of the way as they led 4-3 after the first quarter and 7-5 at the half. The Seawolves (0-13) did battle back to tie the game at 5-5 before Jessica Brooks and Parks scored the last two goals of the half.

A five-goal third opened up the game to a 12-8 Beach lead. Snyder scored two of her three goals in the quarter and Emily Matheson scored both of her goals in the third quarter. The Seawolves outscored LBSU 3-2 in the fourth but it wasn’t enough to erase the Beach lead as the visitors came away with the win.

LBSU will take on their alumni next Saturday at noon and jump back into its schedule on Feb. 28 when they host UC San Diego at 7 p.m.
