LBSU Water Polo Opens The Bucknell Invitational With Three Games
Women's water polo fall to Wagner 3-5 and beat VMI 13-5, but lose to Princeton 7-12.
Lewisburg, Pa. - No. 10 Long Beach State Women’s Water Polo opened up the Bucknell Invitation with a loss to Wagner 3-5, but stepped up their game and beat VMI 13-5 in the second game, and lost to No. 14 Princeton 7-12 in the third match of the day.
In the first match against Wagner, Junior Kayla Robert opened the game with the first goal from the center position. Wagner then scored two more goals, but Robert responded with another goal from center and closed the quarter at 2-2.
During the second and third quarters, Wagner scored two more goals to end the third quarter at 2-4. In the fourth and final quarter, Senior Rachel Cretcher scored a goal from the perimeter, but unfortunately it was not enough to hold the Beach and the match ended with a loss at 3-5.

In the second match of the day against VMI, senior Justine Morgan came out strong by scoring three goals in the first quarter. Junior Christina Kotsia outscored her opponents and threw in two goals. Cretcher also tossed one in the back of the net to end the quarter at 6-3.
In the second quarter, Kotsia scored her third goal and sophomore Lacey Sedor scored her first goal of the season with a minute left to spare in the quarter. The Beach held on to their lead at halftime at 8-3.
In the third quarter, Morgan scored her third goal. Freshman Luiza Moraes also knocked one in the back of the net. VMI scored two more goals, but LBSU still had the lead at 10-5.
In the fourth quarter, freshman Alexandria Massier scored the first goal of the quarter with a shot from center. Junior Emily Matheson also scored from center and junior Jessica Brooks scored on a six versus five man up power play. LBSU finished the match with a win at 13-5 over VMI.

In the last game of the day against No. 14 Princeton, LBSU came out fighting. Morgan scored twice and Brooks threw one in from the perimeter, but Princeton outscored the Beach by the end of the quarter 3-5.
In the second quarter, Kotsia scored off a five-meter penalty shot and Massier scored from the center position, but Princeton scored two more times and ended halftime at 5-7.
In the third quarter, Princeton scored the first three goals, but Morgan scored her third goal off of a two-meter free throw from Brooks. In the last quarter of the match, Cretcher threw in a goal from a power play, but it was not enough to keep up with Princeton and LBSU ended up down 7-12.
