Women’s Water Polo Drops A Pair At Triton Invitational

San Diego, Calif. - Long Beach State closed its time at the Triton Invitational with two defeats on Sunday, falling to No. 13 UC Santa Barbara and No. 12 Indiana.

In the opening game of the day, Long Beach State (1-6) fell behind No. 13 UC Santa Barbara (9-4) 3-0 in the first quarter, and the slow start continued as the Gauchos took a 6-1 lead into halftime.

A late charge with goals from Raney Remme, Isabel Riley, and a power play goal in the final minutes helped the Beach close the gap, but UC Santa Barbara took a 10-5 win.

Moving into their final game of the day, Long Beach State faced No. 12 Indiana (8-3), where three first quarter goals from Jennifer Beadle helped the Hoosiers take a 4-1 lead. Emily Garczynski scored a second goal for Long Beach State to start the second quarter that cut the lead to 4-3, but the Hoosiers would hang on for a 7-4 lead at halftime.

Two third quarter goals from Joelle Nacouzi helped Indiana increase their lead, offsetting a 2-1 fourth quarter edge for the Beach.

Long Beach State returns to action on Friday, February 23 when the Beach will take part in the UC Irvine Invitational.
