Snyder Scores Five Times In Day One Split

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The No. 10 Long Beach State women's water polo team split its first two matches of the season on Saturday at the UCSB Winter Invite. The Beach fell to No. 4 Cal 13-6 in the morning but rebounded with a 9-4 win over No. 20 Pacific in the afternoon. Coriann Snyder tallied five goals on the day to lead the attack.
Game 1: Cal 13- LBSU 6
The Beach suffered a season-opening loss to No. 4 Cal on Saturday morning, 13-6. Coriann Snyder and Justine Morgan each scored two goals while Hillary Veselik and Rachel Cretcher added in one goal a piece.
LBSU hung tough early on but Cal emerged with the early 3-2 lead after the first quarter. Cal then used the two middle quarters to break the game open. The Golden Bears outscored the 49ers 5-2 in the second quarter and 4-1 in the third for a commanding 12-5 lead.
Cal's Victoria Williams led everyone with three goals in the game while Dora Antal scored a pair. Ten different players scored for Cal.
Kelly Ringel made seven saves for The Beach.

Game 2: LBSU 9 - UOP 4
The Beach limited their former conference foes to four goals and used a big third quarter to come away with a 9-4 win over Pacific. Coriann Snyder scored three more times for a total of five on day one of the season and Kelly Ringel made eight saves in Long Beach State's first win of the season.
The Beach held the slight 2-1 advantage after the first quarter and the teams traded a pair of goals each in the second for a 4-3 LBSU lead at the half.
The third quarter was all Beach as they put up a 4-0 advantage in the quarter to boost the lead to 8-3. A low -scoring fourth was just what LBSU was looking for as it held on for the 9-4 win.
Justine Morgan added in another two goals for the 49ers as did Kayla Robert. Hillary Veselik and Emily Matheson also scored for the 49ers. All four Pacific goals came from different players and Meghan Nee made seven saves in the net for Pacific.
Long Beach State has two more games coming up tomorrow at the UCSB Winter Invite against Bakersfield and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
