Long Beach, Calif. - Sophomore Chisom Okpala was named the Big West Player of the Week in the final week of the season after leading the 49ers to a pair of wins on the road.

Okpala averaged 3.88 kills and 1.50 blocks per set as the 49ers rallied to defeat UC Santa Barbara in five sets before sweeping Cal Poly to finish off the 2012 season on a seven-match winning streak.

The 6-1 middle blocker had six blocks and 18 kills as the 49ers defeated UCSB in 21-25, 26-28, 25-20, 26-24, 15-13 comeback. Okpala then had six more blocks along with 13 kills, leading the team in both categories, in a 25-18, 25-19, 25-21 sweep of the Mustangs.

Over the week, Okpala hit .328, and finished with 12 blocks and 31 kills. She joins Alma Serna and Janisa Johnson as 49ers honored with the award in 2012, and is a first-time winner.
