Women's Volleyball Signs OH Allison Martinez

Nov. 14, 2017

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State women's volleyball head coach Joy McKienzie-Fuerbringer has announced the addition of outside hitter Allison Martinez in the 2017-18 signing class. Martinez is a 6-foot outside who plays for Westridge High School in Pasadena, and she becomes the first signee of the McKienzie-Fuerbringer era at Long Beach State.

"We are very excited to have Allison join the program," McKienzie-Fuerbringer said. "She is a dynamic six-rotation outside with a competitive spirit. She brings experience playing at the highest level of club volleyball, as well as time spent with our USA youth team. We are looking for her to immediately make an impact and look forward to getting her in our gym."

In 2016, Martinez was a member of the U.S. Girls' Youth National Team, winning a silver medal for the United States at the NORCECA Women's U18 Continental Championship in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She plays her club volleyball for San Gabriel Elite, and helped her team to a third-place finish in the 17 Open Division of the 2017 USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships.

Martinez has been a four-year starter for Westridge High School, playing for head coach Otto Lacayo. The Tigers have won at least 23 matches in each of her four years on the team, amassing a 96-28 record during that span. This season, they are currently 24-6, including an undefeated league season to capture a second consecutive Prep League title. After making a run to the CIF-SS Division 3 semifinals, Westridge will host Cypress HS on Wednesday in the first round of the CIF State playoffs.

During her career, Martinez has amassed over 2,000 kills, averaging 5.8 per set over her four-year career. As a sophomore, she put down 7.5 kills per set on .400 hitting. This season, she has collected 125 aces, averaging an impressive 1.5 per set.

Martinez is set to join the Long Beach State program for the 2018 season, as the lone member of McKienzie-Fuerbringer's inaugural signing class. The Beach concludes its 2017 campaign this Saturday at 7 p.m., hosting CSUN at Walter Pyramid.
