Aug. 20, 2010
Long Beach, Calif. - The 2010 Long Beach State women's volleyball season starts this Saturday, when the 49ers welcome back a number of alumni for the team's second alumni match, an exhibition which will be held at 7 p.m. in the Goldmine. Beach volleyball stars Misty May-Treanor and Jenn Snyder highlight the players expected to participate in the game tomorrow. The 49ers will bring back a number of other recent graduates to play, as outside hitter Quincy Verdin, defensive specialists Cynthia Buggs and Iris Murray will join a number of other players to create a formidable side against the current 49er team. Also planning for switch sides of the net for the match is 49er assistant coach Erika Chidester. Long Beach State may also bring in some players on the other side to face the starters due to some early injuries. The 49ers will be prepared to face a true test however, as returning starters Ashley Lee, Caitlin Ledoux, Michelle Osunbor, Lauren Minkel and Laura Schuck lead a strong corps of returning players who will be joined by a strong incoming class of freshmen. This match is the final tuneup for the 49ers before they begin the 2010 regular season with the Long Beach State Baden Classic on August 27 and 28. The 49ers will play in four matches while hosting eight total as part of the tournament. Rutgers, Sacred Heart, and UNLV will be participating in the tournament, joining No. 25 Saint Mary's. The Gaels will face off with the 49ers, who finished one spot behind them in the polls, in the final match of the weekend at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 28.
