Long Beach State volleyball tabbed to win third straight Big West championship

Long Beach, Calif. - Coming off of back-to-back Big West championships, 49er women's volleyball was once again picked to win the conference in the Big West Preseason Coaches Poll. The Big West announced the picks of the nine conference coaches today. After winning their conference-record extending 10th Big West championship last year, the 49ers earned seven first-place votes and 79 total points. Long Beach State returns five starters from the 2009 team, including two first-team All-Big West selections in senior setter Ashley Lee and junior outside hitter Caitlin Ledoux and All-Big West Freshman Team pick Jocelyn Neely. Also returning are middle blocker Michelle Osunbor and libero Lauren Minkel, and they are joined by an outstanding 2010 recruiting class. UC Irvine was picked to finish second in the poll, receiving one first place vote and 68 points, just edging UC Santa Barbara's 65 points. The Gauchos also received the final first place vote. Cal State Fullerton edged out both Cal Poly and UC Davis for the fourth spot in the poll with 47 points, followed by the Mustangs and the Aggies who tied for fifth with 45 points. Pacific was picked seventh, with UC Riverside and Cal State Northridge rounding out the bottom of the poll, tying for eighth place as each team had 14 points. 2010 Big West Preseason Coaches Poll
