Women's Volleyball Selected Fourth in Big West Preseason Poll

LONG BEACH -- The Big West Conference released the 2018 Women's Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll on Tuesday, and Long Beach State was selected fourth with 48 points.

Cal Poly was chosen to repeat as Big West Champion as the Mustangs garnered 77 points with five first place votes. Hawaii secured the remaining four first-place votes to claim second with 75 points, while UC Irvine followed with 62 points.

Behind Long Beach State, UC Santa Barbara tallied 45 points for fifth place, while UC Davis (38 points) and CSUN (30 points) took sixth and seventh, respectively.

Rounding out the poll were UC Riverside (18 points) and Cal State Fullerton (12 points) as they claimed the eighth and ninth spots, respectively.

Long Beach State returns nine letterwinners from a year ago led by juniors Hailey Harward and YiZhi Xue, as well as senior Megan Kruidhof. The Beach also welcome seven newcomers highlighted by senior transfer Tyler Spriggs, and freshmen Kashauna Williams and Allison Martinez. LBSU is led by Joy McKienzie-Fuerbringer who is in her second year at the helm.

The Beach host San Diego in an exhibition contest on Tuesday, August 21 at 11 a.m. inside the Walter Pyramid before opening the season at the Portland State Tournament on Friday, August 24 when LBSU takes on Boise State at noon.
