Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State will be a part of the inaugural USA Volleyball Cup, as the USA Women's National Volleyball Team will play Japan in a three-game series this summer. Long Beach State will host the second match on July 12 at 7 p.m. in the Walter Pyramid.

The three-match series begins on July 10, and will continue at Long Beach State on July 12 before finishing on July 13. All three matches will pit Japan, ranked No. 3 by FIVB against the No. 1 ranked Americans.

"It is a wonderful opportunity to prepare for tournaments by hosting quality opponents beforehand," said Danielle Scott-Arruda (Baton Rouge, La.), a five-time Olympian who also played at Long Beach State. "Having a chance to compete in front of our family, friends and fans is awesome and far too rare. So we are totally excited. Long Beach State did an outstanding job hosting the men's NORCECA Olympic Qualification Tournament in 2012. I am looking forward to playing in the [Walter] Pyramid again."

The USA Volleyball Cup will serve as a final tune-up prior to the FIVB World Grand Prix which begins on August 2. Tickets for the event can be purchased through the Walter Pyramid Box Office at (562) 985-4949 or online at
