Long Beach, Calif. - Junior outside hitter Delainey Aigner-Swesey and sophomore opposite Bre Mackie were both recognized as Academic All-Big West for the fall season, the two 49er women's volleyball players to be honored.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have completed one full year at their university, have played in at least 50 percent of a team's contests, and carry a cumulative GPA higher than 3.20.
Aigner-Swesey, a biology major, was named Academic All-Big West for the second straight year. She averaged 2.87 kills per set, and led the team in kills before missing the last third of the season due to injury.
Sophomore Bre Mackie played in every set during 2012 for Long Beach State, averaging 1.95 kills per set and finishing third on the team with 209 total on the year. A Kinesiology major, this is her first Academic All-Big West selection.
The pair were two of 12 student-athletes honored in the four Big West fall sports that Long Beach State sponsors.
