49ers Dominant In 3-0 Sweep Of Prairie View A&M

Long Beach, Calif. - Saturday's match with Prairie View A&M was just the cure that the 49ers needed in a 25-12, 25-13, 25-11 win over the Panthers. Long Beach State hit .488 for the match, and added 10 blocks in three sets during the victory.
Alex Reid led the hitters with 15 kills on .636 hitting, while Delainey Aigner-Swesey added 13 kills without an error, hitting .650. Long Beach State (7-6) also had five service aces, and held the Panthers to .066 hitting on the night.
The 49ers opened set one with a 9-2 lead, forcing a Prairie View A&M (2-15) timeout with three early blocks. Long Beach State took an 11-2 lead before a sideout, and with a Bre Mackie and Chisom Okpala block the 49ers took a 12-5 lead. Long Beach State ended up finishing off the set with a 25-12 win, hitting .480 overall, led by Aigner-Swesey who had five kills on seven swings.
In the second, the 49ers took a 5-2 lead on a Chelsea Cabrajac ace. Leading 10-6, Prairie View pulled to within two point at 10-8, but Long Beach State pushed right back to take a 13-8 lead, and eventually opened up an 18-10 lead on an overpass kill from Reid. In another dominant win, the 49ers took set two 25-13.
Prairie View took the first point of the set for their first lead, and were able to sideout until an error gave the 49ers their first lead of the set at 6-5. Taking an 13-8 lead on a Reid kill, Long Beach State cruised the rest of the way for a 25-11 win.
With the win, Long Beach State concludes non-conference play for the regular season in 2013. Big West Conference action begins next Friday, September 27, as the 49ers travel to UC Santa Barbara for a 6 p.m. match in the Thunderdome.
