LONG BEACH -The Long Beach State women’s tennis squad will be back in action this weekend as they host the inaugural Beach Tennis Fall Invitational at the Rhodes Tennis Center Oct. 4-6.
The field will feature players from eight schools including conference foes UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge and UC Riverside as well as non-conference opponents Loyola Marymount, Southern Utah and Portland State. The tournament set-up will feature both a winner’s bracket and a consolation draw each day for both singles and doubles, giving players as many matches as possible.
Play will begin Friday morning at 10 a.m. with doubles, followed by three flights of singles and then wrapping up with doubles. Saturday will feature one round of doubles, beginning at 9 a.m., with singles play starting at 10 a.m. and going on for the remainder of the day. The tournament will wrap up on Sunday with doubles play at 9 a.m. and then finish out with singles.
The 49ers will be fielding a complete roster for the first time this season as freshman Holly Reid makes her LBSU debut. Sophomore Ebba Unden received the top seed in Flight A and will face Courtney Pattagala of UCR. Freshman Julie Gerard will also be featured in Flight A and will face Veronika Rogova of Southern Utah. In Flight B, Hayley Thompson will face Camille DeLeon of Cal State Fullerton while Laura Eales takes on the Titans’ Alexis Valenzula. In Flight C, junior Karolina Rozenberg will play Jutta Collett of Cal State Northridge while Gabriela Tilkeridisova plays Loyola Marymount’s Reka Rohonyi. Rounding out the roster in Flight D will be Reid who will play UC Riverside’s VJ Ganesan.
In doubles play, 59th-ranked duo Unden and Rozenberg received the top seed in Flight A, giving them a bye to the second round to face the winner of Fullerton’s McIntosh/Slecove and Southern Utah’s Ivanova/Rogova on Friday at 3:30 p.m. Also in Flight A are Hayley Thompson and Laura Eales who will face UC Riverside’s Almaguer/Pattugalan at 10 a.m. on Friday. Flight B features Julie Gerard and Maeva Razakasoa playing Billingsley/Penner of Cal State Fullerton as well as Holly Reid and Gabriela Tilkeridisova taking on CSUN’s Warren/Marquez.

9 a.m. Doubles Both flights - 2 bye matches to play each other
10 a.m. Singles 12 courts - priority to teams with flights
11:30 a.m. Singles Flight A-D finals & 8 other matches
1 p.m. Singles 6 courts
Admission to the tournament is free and open to the public for the entire weekend.
