Beach Tennis Opens Fall Schedule at UNLV Invitational

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Beach Tennis will get its fall season underway this weekend at the UNLV Fall Invitational in Las Vegas. Competing this weekend in the desert will be returners Lena Pacholski, Maren Helgo and Natalia Munoz, along with newcomers to the program, freshmen Lalita Devarakonda, Georgia Gulin, and Sadaf Sadeghvaziri.

Long Beach State has two players in the top singles draw, with Pacholski opening up against Northern Arizona’s Chiara Tomasetti on Friday at 11 a.m. Munoz is also in the No. 1 singles draw and will play Lilian Poling of Boise State at the same time.

In the No. 2 singles draw, Devarakonda is the long representative for the Beach. She will make her Long Beach State debut against Washington State’s Aneta Miksovska on Friday at 11 a.m. Playing in the No. 3 singles draw, Gulin and Sadeghvaziri will play at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, going up against UTEP’s Cora Lynn Von Dungern and UNLV’s Juliet Zhang, respectively. Helgo plays in the fourth singles draw, and will open with Northern Arizona’s Madison Moore at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.

In doubles action, LBSU has two pairs in the No. 1 doubles draw. Gulin and Devarakonda will take on NAU’s team of Walker and Millard, while Pacholski and Munoz will pair up to play WSU’s Michalkova/Ates pairing. Finally, Sadeghvaziri and Helgo will take on UTEP’s Martinez and Morozova in the No. 2 doubles draw.



All doubles matches will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday and will be played as eight-game pro sets. Friday will represent the quarterfinal round of the invitational in all six draws, with the semifinals and finals to follow on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. There will also be a consolation draw in each bracket so that every player/pair is guaranteed three matches for the weekend.
