Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State has announced that Laura Bernard and Karolina Rozenberg have each signed a National Letter of Intent and will complete the recruiting class for 2011-12. The pair will join a 49er squad that is looking to defend their 2011 Big West Championship next season.
"We are very excited that Karolina and Laura have chosen to study and play here at Long Beach State," said Jenny Hilt-Costello, head coach of the women's tennis program.
"Both girls have a lot of juniors experience and good weapons that translate well at a ranked Division I program. They also both have excellent academic marks with 3.50 cumulative high school grade point averages. I anticipate that both of them will fit right into our program tradition of success on the court and in the classroom."
Hailing from Rosieres, Belgium, Bernard has been ranked as high as No. 284 in the ITF junior world rankings. She is ranked No. 30 in the Belgian women's ranking and holds a -4/5 rating in the French tennis rankings. Bernard is also a winner of two ITF world juniors event titles, one in singles and one in doubles in 32 appearances.
Rozenberg also brings plenty of world juniors experience, participating in 30 world junior tournaments. Coming to The Beach from St. Petersburg, Rozenberg has a career high ranking of No. 360 in the ITF junior world rankings.
The 49ers will be looking to defend their 2011 Big West Conference championship, as well as earn a ninth trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2011-12. Long Beach State has won eight of the last 10 Big West titles, and has also won six consecutive ITA National Academic Team awards.
