Long Beach, Calif. -
Long Beach State will start the NCAA Tournament in Southern California, traveling to UCLA to face No. 33 Arkansas in the first round of the postseason. That match will be held on Friday, May 11 at 10 a.m.
The Razorbacks were selected as an at-large, with a record of 12-13 overall and 3-8 in the SEC. However, the team's computer ranking of No. 33 was high enough to get Arkansas into the tournament.
Long Beach State (18-5, 8-0 Big West) boasts the Big West Player of the Year, Anais Dallara, ranked #101 in singles, while first-team All-Big West doubles team Rachel Manasse and Laura Bernard will enter the tournament ranked #81 in doubles. Arkansas has no players ranked in the last cycle of rankings.
With a win over the Razorbacks, the 49ers will face the winner of No. 1 UCLA and Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, May 12 at 3 p.m. The Colonels earned an automatic bid after winning the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.
Long Beach State will play at UCLA for the fourth time in the team's nine NCAA appearances. The 49ers have never left the state of California for the NCAA Tournament.
