Beach Tennis Hosts UC Irvine in Big West Match-Up

LONG BEACH – The Long Beach State women’s tennis team welcomes Big West Conference foe UC Irvine to Rhodes Tennis Center on Friday, March 2 at 2 p.m. The contest against UC Irvine kicks off a six-match homestand for the Beach.

LAST TIME OUT
• The Beach are looking to rebound after dropping a pair of matches last week to Loyola Marymount and No. 48 USC.
• Long Beach State dropped a 6-1 decision last week against Loyola Marymount as freshman Sadaf Sadeghvaziri recorded the lone point for the Beach.
• Following the set back to LMU, the Beach traveled to USC and fell by a score of 4-0 to the No. 48 Trojans.

ABOUT THE BEACH
• Long Beach State brings a 3-5 overall record into the match against UC Irvine.
• The Beach are 1-1 in Big West action as they defeated UC Riverside, 5-2, to start the season before dropping a 5-2 contest to Hawaii.
• Sadeghvaziri has won her last two singles matches picking up wins against LMU and Maryland.
• This season sophomore Natalia Munoz has won five of her singles dual matches as she owns a 5-3 record.
• Senior Lena Pacholski and Sadeghvaziri each have own four singles dual matches with identical records of 4-3.

ACROSS THE NET – UC IRVINE
• The Anteaters come into the match against Long Beach State with a 5-4 overall record.
• The contest against the Beach will be the ‘Eaters’ Big West season opener.
• UC Irvine has won its last four straight matches with victories over Idaho State (6-1), La Salle (5-1), Saint Joseph’s (4-3), and Lafayette College (5-1).

• Long Beach State will welcome Penn to Rhodes Tennis Center for a mid-week, non-conference match on Tuesday, March 6 at 2 p.m.

Beach Tennis Pulls Out 4-3 Win at UC Irvine
Long Beach State had a challenging afternoon at Irvine, but the Beach pulled out a narrow 4-3 win on the road to end its road trip on a high note. Laura Eales earned the decisive victory at No. 6 singles to edge the win in favor of the 49ers.
