NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The Long Beach State tennis team wrapped up the fall season at the CSUN Fall Tournament on Sunday in Northridge, Calif. The Beach came away with three wins in the singles bracket and on win in the doubles draws as they now turn their attention to the spring season.

“This tournament ends our fall season, which has always been a time of development for us,” Long Beach State head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello explained. “While we have not reached our full potential yet, we are happy with the progress we have made over the last eight weeks – especially the freshmen.”

A team that has four freshman and six underclassmen on their seven-player roster, the Beach is a young, but talented squad that posted a solid showing all throughout the fall season. In their final competition, Long Beach State sent lone senior Lena Pacholski, along with freshmen Carlota Casasampere, Georgia Gulin, and Sadef Sadeghvaziri to the courts to hold their own in singles action.

Gulin posted a dominating performance as she knocked off UC Riverside’s Tracy Van by scores of 6-0 and 6-0. Casasampere followed suit with a pair of 6-1, 6-1 set victories over Azusa Pacific’s Mikayla Rinker. Pacholski was solid once again with a win over UC Irvine’s Vivian Dvali after defeating her by set scores of 6-2 and 7-5. Sadeghvaziri, however, suffered a setback against Cal State Fullerton’s Luxizi Meng, 7-6, 6-7, 6-4.

In doubles action, Pacholski joined forces with sophomore Natalia Munoz and the pair earned a 6-3 victory over UCI’s Stephanie Hazell and Dvali. Gulin and Casasampere went up against Cal State Fullerton’s duo of Jadie Acidera and Meng, falling to the Titan pair by a score of 6-2.

With the fall season behind them, Long Beach State looks forward to the 2018 season which begins Friday, Jan. 19 with the Beach Winter Invite at the Rhodes Tennis Center. The three-day competition will run until Sunday, Jan. 21.
