Long Beach State Off to a Good Start at CSUN Fall Tournament

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The Long Beach State tennis team kicked off the CSUN Fall Tournament with a strong showing as the Beach won five of the six singles matches they competed in, and took five of the six doubles matches as they moved into the winner’s bracket in the tournament.

Lena Pacholski, Natalia Munoz, and Sadaf Sadeghvaziri won each of the matches in which they competed on Friday.

Pacholski earned a win in the singles draw against Youngstown State’s Sofia Macias as Pacholski defeated Macias by set scores of 4-6, 6-4, and 6-0. She came back in doubles action along with Munoz and the duo knocked off Westmont’s Isabel Lee/Trebisky, 6-1, before handing Iowa State’s doubles pairing of Ekatarina Repina/Margarita Timakova a 6-3 loss.

In addition to her doubles victories, Munoz also defeated Sacramento State’s Sofia Gulniva in singles action by score of 6-3, 6-3.

Sadeghavaziri was also undefeated on the first day of competition as she posted strong showings in both singles and doubles action. In singles, she earned a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over UC Riverside’s Sara Khatab. In doubles, she partnered with Casasampere as the duo dominated UCR’s Tamilla Vaksman/Lauren Wolfe for a 6-0 win, before collecting a 7-6 (3) win over UC Irvine’s Danielle Garrido/Ariana Tilbury.

Lalita Devarakonda and Georgia Gulin were successful in winning their respective singles matches. The teammates paired up in doubles action and defeated Cal State Los Angeles’ Elizaveta Sokolova/Amanda Scheider, 7-5, but eventually fell to CSUN’s Elisa Elhadj/Alicia Dinkelmeyer, 6-2.

The Beach will return to the court on Saturday, Nov. 11.
