LONG BEACH, Calif. - The doubles team of Natalia Munoz and Lena Pacholski closed out the 2017 Beach Tennis Fall Tournament with a 6-1 victory to claim the Flight A doubles title on Sunday at Rhodes Tennis Center. The pair defeated Cal State Fullerton’s team of Sara Nuno and Karla Portalin in the final as Munoz claims her second championship of the fall season. The sophomore won the top flight singles title at the UNLV Invitational just two weeks ago.

"Lena and Natalia played strong doubles this weekend and a very clean match in the finals to take the win,” said Beach Tennis head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello following Sunday’s action. “Our freshmen learned some valuable lessons this weekend which will help them as we work towards our next tournament."

Doubles led the day as Long Beach State’s pairs went 3-0. In Flight B, Lalita Devarakonda and Sadaf Sadeghvaziri won the consolation final with a 6-4 win over UC Irvine’s pair of Gillian Parker and Clair Dean. Elsewhere, in an exhibition match, Georgia Gulin and Carlota Casasampere dropped Grand Canyon’s Kylie Waschuk and Mya Etienne, 6-3.

LBSU split its singles matches on Sunday, with Devarakonda and Casasampere coming up short in their consolation finals. In exhibition play, Pacholski defeated Washington State’s Bara Michalkova 6-2, 6-3, and Gulin topped Fullerton’s Jadie Acidera 7-6, 6-0.

Next up on the schedule is the Southwest Regionals in San Diego, Calif. Oct. 19-23, then the CSUN Fall Tournament Nov. 10-12.
