Oct. 7, 2012
Fullerton, Calif. - Sophomore Karolina Rozenberg defeated UC Irvine's Sarah Gong in the championship match of the second flight of the Fullerton Invitational, winning 2-6, 7-6, 6-3 to claim the biggest win of the day for the 49ers.
Long Beach State had three championship matches on the day, however, Rozenberg's victory was the only win for the 49ers on Sunday. Klaudia Malenovska reached the championship in the top flight of singles, but finished as the runner-up following a 6-2, 6-3 defeat in the finals.
The 49ers had two doubles teams face each other in the semifinals of the top flight of singles, with Sarah Cantlay and Anna Jeczmionka overcoming Rozenberg and Anne-Sophie Willems to reach the finals, but Cal State Northridge's Anna Yang and Sabrina Man-Son-Hing won 8-2 in the championship to win the title, despite the 49ers sending three teams to the semifinals in doubles.
Sunday also saw the 49ers play two consolation singles matches. Willems battled but ultimately fell in a close match to Borokowski of Cal State Fullerton 2-6, 7-6, 10-8, while Marivick Mamiit of UC Irvine defeated Cantlay 6-1, 6-1.
Long Beach State closes out the fall tournament season with their next tournament, playing in the ITA Southwest Regional beginning on October 18.
