49ers send two to finals at Fullerton Invitational

Fullerton, Calif. - Senior Klaudia Malenovska and sophomore Karolina Rozenberg each reached the finals of the Fullerton Invitational with wins on Saturday. Malenovska plays for the Flight A championship on Sunday, while Rozenberg has a chance for the Flight B title.
Malenovska started off her day in singles by defeating Cal State Fullerton's Tiffany Mai 6-1, 6-1, and then advanced to the finals via walkover, where she will face Loyola Marymount's Tory Parravi in the finals of Flight A.
Rozenberg had to win a pair of matches, topping UC Riverside's Natalie McKay 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals before a convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory in the semifinals to advance to the Flight B championship.
The 49ers also had a strong day in doubles, winning three quarterfinal matches. Malenovska and Eva Rodriguez won their first match, beating Mai and Monica Rodriguez of the host Titans 8-2, but then lost a heartbreaker in the semifinals to Yang and Man-Son-Hing of Cal State Northirdge 9-7.
In the other half of the top draw, Sarah Cantlay and Anna Jeczmionka defeated Ali Facey and Brooke Schweyer of UC Irvine 8-6 to reach the semifinals, and Rozenberg and Anne-Sophie Willems won by the same margin over Paola Cos and Kiersten Meehan of UCSB to reach the semifinals as well. Those duos will play each other tomorrow for the right to face Yang and Man-Son-Hing in the finals.
Three 49ers also had consolation matches. Willems defeated Leslie Chang of Cal State Northridge 6-1, 6-4, while Cantlay had a pair of wins, defeating Ivanova of Southern Utah 6-4, 2-6, 10-7, before beating Meehan 6-0, 6-2 in her second singles match of the day. The 49ers only consolation loss came as Olga Tartarchenko of Southern Utah defeated Eva Rodriguez in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 10-4.
