Fullerton, Calif. - Long Beach State saw all three of its doubles teams advance to the quarterfinals of the top flight at the Fullerton Invitational in the first day of action. Klaudia Malenovska and Karolina Rozenberg each advanced in the main draws of singles as well.
Long Beach State had a phenomenal day in doubles, with all three teams advancing to the quarterfinals in the top draw. Malenovska and Eva Rodriguez, the top seed in the draw, had the best luck, advancing without playing a match as their opponents from Concordia-Irvine withdrew, while Sarah Cantlay and Anna Jeczmionka breezed to an 8-0 sweep of Maria Pistalu and Jessica Warren. Rozenberg and Anne-Sophie Willems finished the perfect day in doubles, winning 8-4 over Paola Cos and Kiersten Meehan.
In the main draw of singles, Malenovska had the biggest win of the day, reaching the quarterfinals with a quick 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Cal State Northridge's Sabrina Man-Son-Hing. Jeczmionka won her first match, beating Monica Rodriguez of Cal State Fullerton 6-2, 6-0 before pushing the top seed of the draw to her limit, going three sets with LMU's Tory Parravi before falling 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 in a third set tiebreaker.
Rodriguez also reached the round of 16 before falling 6-3, 7-5 to April Scatliffe of UCSB, while Cantlay lost in her first match of the day to LMU's April Bisharat 6-2, 6-2.
In Flight B, Rozenberg advanced to the second day's action with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Ali Facey in the Round of 16. Long Beach State's other participant in the flight, Willems, won her first match over Avriel Tomaiko in three sets 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 before losing to UC Irvine's Sarah Gong.
