Natalia Munoz Wins Top Flight Final at UNLV Invitational
Sophomore Natalia Munoz finished off a 3-0 weekend in Las Vegas, claiming the championship in the No. 1 singles draw.
LAS VEGAS - Sophomore Natalia Munoz won the top flight singles title on Sunday at the Las Vegas Fall Invitational, defeating Washington State's Bara Michalkova in the championship match. Munoz ended a perfect 3-0 weekend with a 6-4, 6-4 victory, claiming a singles title one day after earning her first victory over a nationally ranked opponent.
"This was a really strong weekend of tennis for us, highlighted by Natalia's tournament win in the top flight," said Beach Tennis head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "A great start to our season and we are looking forward to our home tournament in two weeks."
While the Munoz win was the biggest of the day, three other Beach players picked up victories on Sunday. Elsewhere in the top flight, senior Lena Pacholski won the consolation final with a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 victory against Boise State's Lilian Poling.
Also winning a consolation final was freshman Sadaf Sadeghvaziri, who defeated Northern Arizona's Cora Lynn Von Dungern 6-4, 6-2. Sophomore Maren Helgo also ended her weekend with a victory, taking down UTEP's Milena Baigorria by a score of 7-6, 6-3.
Long Beach State's next full competition will be at Rhodes Tennis Center as LBSU will host the Beach Tennis Tournament from Oct. 6-8 in Long Beach.
