Tennis finishes first tournament of the season at Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nev. - Long Beach State finished its first tournament of the season, completing their time at the UNLV Invitational on Sunday. Senior Anna Jeczmionka had a pair of wins for the 49ers, one each in singles and doubles on the day.
The 49ers competed in two finals matches on the day, as Nikki Sanders of Texas Tech defeated Sarah Cantlay in the flight two consolation finals 7-5, 6-4, while in doubles, Northern Arizona's Ghezeline Doballah and Malia Wahinepio defeated Karolina Rozenberg and Anne-Sophie Willems 8-6 in the flight two consolation finals.
Rozenberg and Willems recovered to defeat UNLV's Bourchier/Ferenczi-Bako 8-1 in an added match, while Eva Rodriguez and Jeczmionka paired together for the first time in an 8-6 win over South Alabama's Mariya Krachok and Ramona Ghermani.
In added singles matches, Jeczmionka defeated Wahinepio in three sets 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, while Rozenberg had the 49ers other win, 6-1, 7-6 over Mary Angela Martin.
The next tournament for the full team will be the Fullerton Invitational, beginning on October 5, 2012.
