Beach Tennis captures second straight Big West Tournament championship over UC Irvine
No. 43 Long Beach State defeats the No. 72 Anteaters to return to the NCAA Tournament.

Indian Wells, Calif. - Long Beach State will be making its ninth NCAA appearance as the 49ers defeated UC Irvine 4-1 in the Big West Tournament championship, winning the team's ninth Big West Championship in the last 11 years and their second straight tournament victory.
Sarah Cantlay and Julie Luzar earned their 22nd win of the season at No. 3 doubles to start the day for the 49ers, defeating Kat and Ali Facey 8-2 for Long Beach State's first win. The 49ers then took the doubles point as #81 Rachel Manasse and Laura Bernard defeated Courtney Byron and Hannah Holladay 8-4.
In singles, Manasse again led the way with a 6-2, 6-3, victory over Byron to give the 49ers a 2-0 lead, and then Sarah Cantlay defeated Kat Facey 6-1, 7-5 at No. 4 singles to bring Long Beach State one win away from victory. Marivick Mamiit earned the only win for the Anteaters, defeating Klaudia Malenovska 6-2, 6-3.
Bernard finished off the day with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Franziska Goettsching at No. 3 singles, capping off another undefeated season for Long Beach State in Big West action, the first since 2009, as the 49ers went 11-0 against league foes in 2012.
Long Beach State will find out their postseason matchup at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1 in the NCAA.com selection show. The 49ers also could see Anais Dallara in singles and Rachel Manasse and Laura Bernard in doubles receive invitations to the individual championship - those announcements will be made on Wednesday, May 2.
