The 55th-ranked Long Beach State women’s tennis team successfully defended its Big West Conference Tournament title Sunday with a hard-fought 4-2 victory over UC Irvine at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
The win gives the 49ers (20-2) its fourth straight title and marks No. 11 in the last 13 years. The match, lasting four hours and 25 minutes, featured two teams that know each other well as LBSU and the Anteaters have faced each other seven straight times in the championship match.
The day started with doubles as UCI took the first point with wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots.
