LBSU Seniors Shine in Final Home Match Against Alumni

LONG BEACH, Calif. -

Klaudia Malenovska, Sarah Cantlay and Anna Jeczmionka won all of their matches on senior day as the trio played their final home match against the alumni on Saturday at the Rhodes Tennis Center.

The match featured celebrated alumni Anais Dallara, Hannah Grady, Miranda Carvalho, Connie Burggraf-Espina, Veronica Shelby, Hally Cohen and Sophie Han-Salvador, but it was the current beach tennis squad who dominated the match.

In doubles play, Klaudia Malenovska and Sarah Cantlay won the first match of the day at the No. 2 spot, beating Hannah Grady and Connie Burggraf-Espina 8-1 while Anna Jeczmionka and Anne-Sophie Willems quickly followed suit, defeating Sophie Han-Salvador and Hally Cohen by the same score. Ebba Unden and Karolina Rozenberg then completed the sweep with an 8-5 win over Anais Dallara and Miranda Carvalho.

 

 

In singles play, Anne-Sophie Willems completed her match first, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Veronica Shelby. Anna Jeczmionka quickly followed suit with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Miranda Carvalho. At the No. 5 spot Karolina Rozenberg won her first set 6-0 and was up 1-0 in the second set when her opponent Connie Burgraff-Espina subbed out and was replaced by Sophie Han-Salvador. Rozenberg went on to win her match 6-0, 6-1. Klaudia Malenovska, competing at the No. 2 spot, won 6-0, 6-4 over Hannah Grady and Sarah Cantlay made it a perfect day for the seniors with her 6-0, 6-3 victory over Hally Cohen. The alumni gained one point at the No. 1 spot as Anais Dallara fought back from a 6-2 loss in the first set to win the second set 6-4 and then win the super tiebreaker 10-5 over Ebba Unden.

LBSU will begin post-season action next weekend when the team travels to Indian Wells, Calif. for the Big West Tournament.
