Long Beach State Coasts by Cal Poly, 4-0
Beach Tennis earned a quick 4-0 victory over Cal Poly on Friday afternoon.
LONG BEACH, Calif. - In its penultimate match of the regular season, Beach Tennis earned a quick 4-0 victory over visiting Cal Poly (3-13, 1-5 Big West) on Friday afternoon. Long Beach State (16-4, 6-1 Big West) made quick work of the Mustangs who played with just five players, as the 49ers improved to 10-1 at Rhodes Tennis Center this season.
LBSU took a fast 1-0 lead with the doubles point, winning at the No. 2 spot. The team of Lena Pacholski and Laura Eales defeated Cal Poly’s pair, 6-0, to clinch the win after Cal Poly did not field a team at No. 3.
In singles, the Mustangs were also without a No. 6 singles player, giving the Beach a win by default and a 2-0 advantage. LBSU then needed just two wins in order to clinch the win, and it was Natalia Munoz who was the first to claim a win. The freshman won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 to put the Beach up 3-0. Capping off the win was Pacholski who picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles.
The Beach will finish off the regular season on Saturday with an 11 a.m. match vs. UC Santa Barbara. Prior to the match, Long Beach State’s senior class will be celebrated during Senior Day festivities, which will begin at 10:45 a.m.
