LBSU Wins 6-1 Over UC Santa Barbara to Earn Fifth Straight Victory

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -
The 60th-ranked Long Beach State women’s tennis team won its fifth straight match today with a 6-1 victory at UC Santa Barbara.
The 49ers (14-2) earned the first point of the match behind wins at the No. 1 and 3 spots. Karolina Rozenberg and Holly Reid picked up the first win, putting away Kaiulani Boyer and Kiersten Meehan 8-2. Ebba Unden and Laura Eales then sealed the point as they won 8-6 over April Scatliffe and Luisa Ortiz Candido.
In singles, LBSU picked up five more wins. Maeva Razakasoa downed Scatliffe 6-1, 6-2 at the top spot while Ebba Unden won 7-6 (7), 6-3 over Jaimee Gilbertson at the No. 2 spot. Julie Gerard battled through in three sets to win 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 over Kaiulani Boyer and Karolina Rozenberg put away Paola Cos 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot. Holly Reid then rounded out the Beach Tennis victories as she won 6-3, 6-1 over Priscila Garcia.
"This was a strong conference win on the road today," head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello said.
The victory moves LBSU back into a tie with UC Irvine for first place in the Big West as both squads are a perfect 5-0. The 49ers will close out their weekend tomorrow at 1 p.m. when they take on conference foe Cal Poly.
