Beach Tennis Falls to No. 16 Pepperdine
LBSU played its first road match in three weeks and suffered a defeat at No. 16 Pepperdine on Friday.
MALIBU, Calif. - Long Beach State visited No. 16 Pepperdine on Friday afternoon, suffering a 7-0 loss to the highly-touted Waves. This was LBSU’s first road match in three weeks after a six-match homestand, and third match with a ranked team in the last eight days. The Beach falls to 13-4 with the loss while Pepperdine improves to 10-4.
Pepperdine took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3, while the middle pairs were locked in a close set. Laura Eales and Lena Pacholski were down just 5-4 in their doubles match when the point was decided, leaving their match as unfinished.
In singles action, reigning Big West Player of the Week Natalia Munoz pushed her match to three sets at No. 5, but dropped the third-set tiebreaker, 10-7 for a final match score of 7-5, 3-6, 10-7. The top four players for Pepperdine are all nationally ranked, making for a tough afternoon for Long Beach State. Maeva Razakasoa went up against No. 6 ranked Luisa Stefani and played her tough in a 7-5, 6-3 loss.
LBSU will remain on the road next weekend, heading further north and making a return to Big West play. The 49ers will visit Sacramento State next Friday at 2 p.m. before taking on UC Davis on Saturday at 11 a.m.
