Beach Tennis Defeats Brown, 5-2
LBSU concluded its six-match homestand with a 5-1 record thanks to Thursday’s 5-2 win over Brown.
LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Beach finished off its homestand with a 5-2 victory over Brown on Thursday afternoon at Rhodes Tennis Center. LBSU played its last six matches at home and went 5-1, with its only loss coming to No. 39 Dartmouth. Long Beach State is now 13-3 after Thursday’s win while Brown falls to 9-5 on the year.
The 49ers cruised to a doubles victory thanks to 6-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Senior Laura Eales and junior Lena Pacholski defeated Mariska Chamdani and Taylor Cosme and the freshman duo of Maren Helgo and Natalia Munoz took down Maddie Stearns and Juliana Simon.
Helgo and Munoz each picked up straight-set wins in singles action to go 2-0 on the day. Helgo was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 4 and Munoz was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 5. At the No. 3 spot, Lena Pacholski earned a 6-3, 6-4 win, and at the top of the lineup, Maeva Razakasoa picked up a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 comeback win.
Long Beach State is now 9-1 at home this season and Munoz has now won five straight singles matches.
Up next is a tough test at No. 16 Pepperdine on Friday. First serve in Malibu is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
